Badge Mending
This is a short account of how I pieced to gether my old three piece badge into a single shiny one.
The basic idea is shown in the picture below. The method of mending was to drill very small holes into the ends of the fracture. Short pieces of strong wire were inserted and glued into the hole on one piece and then glued into the hole on the other piece. This provides a reasonably strong mend with the reinforcement of the wire. The really tricky bit is drilling into the end of the badge - without breaking the drill or the badge. The hole I drilled was about 0.5mm in diameter. The wire I used was some odd strands from the innner part of a bicycle brake cable, as this is steel rather than copper (as found in electrical wire) and quite strong. The glue I used was Araldite epoxy resin - though any decent glue will do. The reassembled badge, once the glue is set, can be cleaned carefully with a toothbrush and some chrome cleaner - buffed up wioth a soft dry cloth.
